Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the Chlamydia trachomatis bacteria. Individuals at a high risk includes, sexually active persons and others having multiple partners.
Symptoms
As many as 1 in 4 men with chlamydia have no symptoms. In men, chlamydia may produce symptoms similar to gonorrhea. Symptoms may include:
- Rectal discharge or pain
- Burning sensation during urination
- Testicular tenderness or pain
- Discharge from the penis or rectum
30 % of women suffering from this disease have no symptoms, but if they do it includes the following:
- Vaginal discharge
- Rectal pain or discharge
- Burning sensation during urination
- Symptoms of PID, salpingitis, liver inflammation similar to hepatitis
- Painful sexual intercourse
